AmiForest: Cracking Climate Change with Coconut Trees

US Donors

For our U.S.-based donors, we are partnering with Memory Trees Corporation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to facilitate contributions that are eligible for U.S. tax benefits.

Amicorp is committed to environmental sustainability. We’ve been offsetting our carbon footprint for over 10 years, recognizing our responsibility to be a good corporate citizen. Our AmiForest project, part of the Amicorp Community Foundation (“ACF”) and now based in the Philippines, focuses on minimizing our carbon emissions from air travel by planting coconut trees. We’ve implemented an internal travel booking system to track and report employee air miles.

Why are we now planting coconut trees?
Coconut trees are exceptional carbon sinks, capable of absorbing carbon dioxide (“CO2”) at significantly higher rates than many other species over their 50–60-year lifespan. By leveraging this natural ability, large-scale coconut plantations have the potential to become carbon neutral and generate substantial income through carbon credit markets.

Additionally, coconut-based ecosystems offer promising opportunities for enhanced carbon sequestration. We can optimize carbon capture and climate change adaptation by intercropping coconuts with a diverse range of plants, including food crops, tubers, vines, and tree crops. This integrated approach not only benefits the environment but also provides sustainable livelihoods, reducing poverty and creating jobs in the local community.

Through a partnership with Lionheart Farms, an organic regenerative coconut plantation in Rizal, Palawan, we have planted 800 new palms and are adopting 1,400 mature palm trees that will offset 540 tons of CO2 annually. Our trees will be part of the 600,000 coconut palms already planted on degraded land in the region, transforming that area into a thriving carbon sink. The partnership includes a unique financial structure where harvest profits are reinvested into the ACF so that we can continue our efforts to plant more trees to offset further carbon emissions more widely.

The farm was established on ancestral lands with the local Indigenous community’s approval, which was obtained through a Free and Prior Informed Consent (“FPIC”) process conducted by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (“NCIP”).

Join us in investing in a more sustainable future
Together, we can build a more sustainable world, but we need your support. We would like to invite other organizations to join us in investing in a greener future. Every tree planted is another step towards a more sustainable and resilient future, and investment in this project is accompanied by a Carbon Removal Certificate and impact reports.
You can make a donation through the Amicorp Community Foundation here or get in touch with the team to find out more about setting up a regular carbon removal agreement.
